IMPRO SPRING TASTERS

Choose from Sunday September 15 or Sunday October 13, 2024, 2:00pm-4:00pm, @ Blank Creative,  15 Moore Street, Canberra City

(*Read below for our single-session Taster description, but if you already know you’d like to try impro, why not enrol directly into our eight night beginners course, here; https://impro.com.au/beginners-courses/

Our Impro Tasters are a two-hour one-off introduction to improvisation session. If you’d just like a quick splash of spontaneity in your life, or you’d like to fast-taste impro, before joining our regular weekly course, Prepare To Be Unprepared (enrolling every quarter), why not try one of our popular Impro Tasters.

Your session is led by internationally touring improvisation teacher, Nick Byrne, so you’ll have a fun-filled session of practical exercises and games that introduce you to the fundamental principles of improvised theatre, that you can use on stage or in everyday life, for confidence, communications and social skills.

Impro ACT provides a warm learning environment, and is an internationally respected performing artist, working in more than 35 countries.

If you like it, you might want to enrol in one of our short courses, one-night-per-week, to qualify to participate in shows, or simply to have a bright, positive moment in every week.

Impro Tasters are held sometimes at Blank Creative and sometimes at Ainslie Arts Centre; both an easy walk from Canberra city centre.

• What to bring
Just yourself, but wear comfortable clothes that you can move in 🙂

* If you already know you’d like to try improvisation in one of our short courses, running one-night-per-week, instead, enrol directly, here;  https://impro.com.au/beginners-courses/

Special Guest Workshop – Aden Date (Perth) – All You Need is Your Scene Partner

Saturday October 12, 11:00am – 4:00pm, 2024 @ Blank Creative,  15 Moore Street, Canberra City

You don’t need who, what, or where: You just need your scene partner.

This workshop will focus on grounding our scene by connecting with our scene partner. We’ll look at how patience, deep tissue listening, and trust can help us discover the scene rather than inventing it. You don’t need your own ideas: Just your scene partner. Drawing on TJ Jagadowski & Dave Pasquesi, we’ll play with improvisation at the speed of trust to see how our scenes can be longer and more engaging with less fluff.

This class will be structured around a two-person version of The Monoscene, a ten-minute improv half-marathon with no edits. This feat of extended improvisation demands exceptional trust, self-confidence, and a willingness to play the drama that breathes between the laugh lines.

About Aden Date:

Aden is the General Manager of Only the Human, Perth’s premiere improvisation training company. He’s trained intensively at iO Chicago, The Annoyance, and with Jimmy Carrane, and has performed as far afield as Cape Town and Canberra. He’s also a member of Perth’s long-running short-form troupe, The Big Hoo-Haa! and is the author of Funny Business: Lessons on Creativity from Improvised Theatre.
